By naming them\, we recognize them as individuals\, not numbers. In doing so\, we transform their markers into monuments and honor those who died while in custody. \nThrough dedicated research and archiving\, we are uncovering and preserving the stories of these individuals. These stories will be told through short biographies that provide details about their lives and incarceration. With the invaluable help of Lisa Kennedy and her students at the Massachusetts College of Art\, we’ve also created memorial illustrations for each individual interred at the cemeterygenerations to come. This work has also been made possible with support from the Friends of the Concord Free Public Library and the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail Advisory Committee. \nClick Here to Explore our Interactive Map of the Cemetery> \nThese memorials will be featured on an interpretive panel at the entrance of the cemetery and accessible via a QR code\, linking to biographies and artwork. SUMMARY:Wisdom in the Circle: Conversation about Race and Culture in the 21st Century
DESCRIPTION:Wisdom in the Circle – Conversation about Race and Culture in the 21st Century \nWhen: \n\nWednesday\, June 5 – 6:00-8:00 pm\nWednesday\, June 26 – 6:00-8:00 pm\n\nWhere: \nFirst Parish in Concord\, 20 Lexington Rd\, Concord\, MA 01742 \nFree and open to the public. No registration is required! \nThe objective of the program is to share personal stories about race in our lives and how we can work toward building the beloved community. \nThis conversation will be structured as a listening circle format\, creating an intentional space for personal and community reflection. It is not a presentation or briefing but a chance to get to know each other through sharing our experiences and deepening relationships. \nIn the 21st century\, we are currently experiencing a relational deficit\, encompassing global differences\, environmental concerns\, and racial and cultural differences. At the heart of all these disparities\, the quality of human relationships has deteriorated\, and we have lost the communal capacity for mutual respect and caring. We hope to use this platform to strengthen and heal the web of relationships. \nSponsored by: Concord Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI)\, Concord Prison Outreach (CPO)\, and First Parish of Concord Racial Justice Action Group (RJAG)

SUMMARY:Wisdom in the Circle: Conversation about Race and Culture in the 21st Century
DESCRIPTION:Wisdom in the Circle – Conversation about Race and Culture in the 21st Century \nWhen: \n\nWednesday\, June 5 – 6:00-8:00 pm\n\nWhere: \nFirst Parish in Concord\, 20 Lexington Rd\, Concord\, MA 01742 \nFree and open to the public.

SUMMARY:Finding Hope Within - Museum Exhibit at the Rokeby Museum Featuring Art From Students at MCI-Shirley and North Central Correction Center
DESCRIPTION:Finding Hope Within – Museum Exhibit at Rokeby Museum Featuring Art From Students at MCI-Shirley and North Central Correction Center\nGuest-Curated by John Vincent\, A Revolutionary Press \n2023 Special Exhibit\, August 10–October 14\, 2023\, part of regular admission \nConcord Prison Outreach was invited by John Vincent of A Revolutionary Press to help curate the Finding Hope Within exhibit\, currently on display at the Rokeby Museum in Ferrisburgh\, Vermont. \nFinding Hope Within features art that has emerged through the Carceral system. It combines art made by incarcerated artists in facilities in Vermont\, Massachusetts\, and Maine—from poetry and other writings to visual art and sculptural pieces—and art made collaboratively between incarcerated artists with non-incarcerated artists on the outside. \nThis exhibition posits art making as a transformative\, healing\, and cathartic practice and highlights the intensely human instinct to create as a way to transform one’s relationship to community\, to the environment\, and to the self. A spark of hope for the future emerges through the art of creation. \nFeatured in the exhibit is artwork from students at MCI-Shirley and North Central Correctional Institute (NCCI)\, made possible by Marie LeBlanc of NCCI\,Tressa Stazinski of Mount Wachusett Community College\, Ellie DiMauro of Concord Prison Outreach\, the Education administration at MCI-Shirley and NCCI\, and John Vincent of A Revolutionary Press. \nCo-curators of the exhibition include Heather Newcomb of Vermont Works for Women\, Ashley Messier of Vermont Women’s Justice and Freedom Initiative\, Olivia Hochstadt and Jan Collins of Maine Prisoner Advocacy Coalition\, Ellie DiMauro of Concord Prison Outreach in Massachusetts\, and Laura Carey of the New England Innocence Project. \nWe highly recommend that you take the opportunity to visit the exhibit\, as it promises to be a truly enriching experience!
